Huatulco, starting point of the Panamerican Race
October 2011
Bahías de Huatulco was the site of the starting point for the Panamerican Race 2011, “The Mexican Road Race”, carried out from October 21 to 27 of this year.
This destination was selected for the second time following the promotion carried out by state and municipal authorities, supported by the petition from the very pilots of the race, requesting to make this paradise the host of the start.
Thus starting on October 17, dozens of classic cars arrived with their teams of technicians and mechanics at the destination in order to display their motor-racing team at Chahué Beach and to fine-tune details before the start.
Huatulco and its visitors waited impatiently for the starting signal given by the authorities on October 21 at 8:00 am from Blvd. Benito Juarez to take off en route to the City of Oaxaca.
The winner of this event was the Team of “La Ballena Azul” (The Blue Whale).
Huatulco – sustainable tourist destination
August 2011
Bahías de Huatulco is the first tourist destination in the world to obtain the EarthCheck Gold 2011 certificate, thus turning it into a sustainable tourist community of international recognition.
The award was presented to the Governor of Oaxaca, Gabino Cué Monteagudo, through the hands of the Federal Secretary of Tourism, Gloria Guevara Manzo, in presence of the general director of the National Fund for Tourism (Fonatur), Adriana Pérez Quesnel, and the embassador of EarthCheck in Latin America, Gustavo Ramos Fumagalli.
This recognition qualifies the tourist destination as the first one on the American continent to be totally carbon neutral, thus being classified as a place that is clean, noteworthy, and comfortable.
In Oaxaca, one of the main economic activities is tourism, and this certificate identifies Huatulco as a reliable destination for both national and foreign visitors.
In response, the Federal Secretary of Tourism, Gloria Guevara Manzo highlighted that Governor Gabino Cué has a commitment to tourism for the social and economic growth of the state, while stating that she considers him a great ally of the Federal Government.
New airline route to Huatulco inaugurated.
June 2011
A new daily flight between Mexico City and Huatulco will be opened, offering 22 thousand seats per month flying towards this beach destination.
Thanks to the efforts of the state government together with the airline Aeroméxico, there will be daily flights of planes of the Embraer 190 type, with a capacity of 99 passengers, of which 11 will be first class.
It is an important achievement for Huatulco that as of June it will be connected to 34 national destinations, as well as 10 international ones, with an approximate connection time of 3 hours through the international airport of the capital of the country.
It is not an exaggeration to say that thanks to this new flight there will be better conditions to promote trips for business, conventions, incentives, and including holiday packages which will give Huatulco greater economic benefits.
